Truth Over Political Convenience

The votes have been counted. The results are in.
For me, living my beliefs was never measured by who would win at the ballot box. As a woman, I have the right to make a decision and to change my mind.
I recognize that my decision has consequences. All important decisions do.
I don't regret it, but I am truly sorry that it upset some of my colleagues and people I care about personally. As many of my congressional colleagues and constituents in Michigan know, for eight years, I have built one of the most unwavering pro-Israel voting records in Congress.
I have supported an ally of the United States that is imperfect and in need of some political reforms of its own, but is nonetheless our truest friend in a part of the world where we need more friends, not fewer. I have stood with the Jewish community when it was easy and when it was hard, and I am not going to stop now.
